In the past years one Diamond League event has always been staged outside the stadium : the Shot Put on the Grand Place, at Place de la Monnaie or at Place de Brouck\u00e8re. This year the organisers had a more adventurous idea by choosing the Discus Throw. That requires quite a bit more open space and therefore the \u201cwoods\u201d of La Cambre at the end of the prestigious Avenue Louise came in the picture. On the border of the lake, opposite to Chalet Robinson, the World\u2019s best male and female Discus Throwers will try to collect as many points as possible to qualify for the Diamond League Final.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is inviting and inspiring, especially for the local youth, to bring athletics that close to the people\u201d, says meeting director C\u00e9dric Van Branteghem. \u201cThe venue outside the stadium is also exciting for the athletes themselves. It was not easy to stage an event like the Discus Throw in a public area but the La Cambre Park offers the space and the setting that is required. Alongside the lake the area is flat and appropriate to stage this highest level competition. We are very thankful to the City of Brussels that we have been allowed to stage this Urban Allianz Memorial Van Damme event at this very place. Really exciting !\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

World Champion and World Ranked number 1 Daniel Stahl is aiming to add a third win to his record in Brussels. Vice World Champion Fedrick Dacres can grasp a second win in the Belgian capital. Philip Milanov defends the colours of his home country while the World\u2019s best female Discus Throwers will be part of the action as well.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

On Sep. 1st children return back to school in Belgium but on Wednesday afternoon they are free from school. An ideal moment to learn to know athletics and to discover their talents. There will be a Kids Athletics program and a Pre Program with the best Belgian Youth athletes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Access to the event is free. The venue can easily be reached through Avenue Louise or through Franklin Roosevelt Avenue. More World class athletics and the full program of the 45th Allianz Memorial Van Damme is coming your way on Sep.3rd in the King Baudouin Stadium.
