Valerie Adams out for revenge in Shot Put at Grand Place

On Thursday at 5 p.m. the Women’s Shot Put will be held at the central square of Brussels (Grand Place), on a scene surrounded by impressive medieval buildings, including the famous City Hall. “I’m out for revenge”, said Adams after she was defeated in Rio by Michelle Carter from the USA. “I must be satisfied with silver, recognising that I’ve had three times surgery in the past 15 months. One year ago I even thought that I would never qualify for the Olympics.”

“To compete outside the stadium is not exceptional anymore. I’ve done it several times already : in Zürich, in Stockholm, in some German cities, but the Grand Place of Brussels is quite exceptional and something very special to look forward to. In the stadium the Shot Put is never really in the spotlights, compared to sprinting and running. This is different. On a city square the contact with the crowd is better and that is an extra motivation. It’s also spectacular for the audience to watch us from close by. Yes, I’m excited about this competition and I absolutely want my revenge for Rio.”
