Men against women in Mixed Hurdles Race

An experimental Mixed Hurdles Race is on the program of the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme next Friday. Men and women compete in the same race.

"Athletics is the oldest of sports and it has to innovate constantly, that is what IAAF President Sebastian Coe said recently and we believe in that", says assistant meeting director Cedric Van Branteghem. "Eight Belgian national athletes, 4 men and 4 women will take on the challenge."

"It is an idea that Diamond Race events will take place outside the stadium in the future", explains Van Branteghem. "Shot Put on a market place or Pole Vault in a train station, why not ? We just need to find the right setting to do it, we are actively working on this."
