What are the main events at the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme 2013?
The Belgacom Memorial Van Damme, on September 6, will again be the final event of the Diamond League. You can already discover which disciplines will be scheduled that day!
The Diamond League is composed of 14 of the best invitational track and field meetings in the world. Each meeting hosts 16 events in which points can be scored for the Diamond Race.
In Brussels, the women’s events include the 100 meter, 400 meter and 1500 meter races, 3000 meter steeplechase, 100 meter hurdles, high jump, long jump and discus throw. The men can participate in the 200 meter, 800 meter and 5000 meter races, 400 meter hurdles, pole vault, triple jump, shot put and javelin throw.
The Diamond League encompasses a total of 32 individual event disciplines (16 for men and 16 for women). Each of the disciplines is staged seven times throughout the 14 meetings. The athlete with the highest number of points in each discipline at the end of the Diamond League season wins the Diamond Race and can rightfully claim the title of ‘world’s number 1’.
On May 10, 2013, the Doha meeting will kick off the series. On September 6, the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme concludes the Diamond League as well as the 2013 Diamond Race.
