Piet Stockmans sculptor of the Winner’s Trophy

For this year’s Winner’s Trophy designer Piet Stockmans used the map of Belgium als the basic idea and rolled it up in a horn of porcelain. The white porcelain refers to the virginal and vulnerable character of human being. The ribbon in Belgian colors puts an emphasis on the place where the event is held.

The object in the hand of the winner takes the form of a torch with a blue fire that refers to the European Union. Blue is also the color of peace and endlessness, of rest and faith, concepts that are all meaningful in sports.

Piet Stockmans is a Flemish designer and ceramist. His studio produces lots of artistic objects as well as utensils in porcelain. He became famous with the production of crockery sets that are being used in many star restaurants.
