The Trophy is an initiative of the Wanda Diamond League in collaboration with the Jesse Owens family members and with the Jesse Owens Foundation. The legendary American sprinter and Long Jumper Jesse Owens was 23 years of age when he won 4 times Gold at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. He was and still is an inspiring athlete for many athletes in all the next generations.
In Berlin Owens received 4 twigs of an oak tree for every gold medal that he won. The winners of the Jesse Owens Rising Star Awards will receive a new twig from the Jesse Owens Oak that will be planted at the stadium where the Diamong League Final takes place.
