King Baudouin Stadium gets brand new athletics track

Great news! In 2023 the King Baudouin Stadium will receive a brand-new athletics track. Ahead of this year's Allianz Memorial Van Damme, the track's weakest spots will also be renovated.

The current track dates back to 2009 and was due for a renovation. Last week, the Brussels city council agreed to install a new athletics track, complying with the most stringent norms. The start of the works is planned at the end of October this year, ahead of its scheduled completion in the spring of 2023.

The new track will enable the stars of athletics to shine even more brightly at the 2023 Allianz Memorial Van Damme. Ahead of this year’s edition, the current track’s weakest areas will be renovated.

As the Allianz Memorial Van Damme meeting director I’m of course delighted with the new track for the King Baudouin Stadium,” meeting director Kim Gevaert said. “It will allow us to host many more memorable editions of the Memorial, and thanks to the renovation we will continue to be able to welcome the world’s best athletes.”
