Obiri vs. Hassan, Shubenkov vs. Ortega, Harrison vs. Williams

We continue our countdown to the 43rd edition of the AG Memorial Van Damme, next Friday in the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. This preview is about the Women’s 5000m and both High Hurdle events.

5000m women

There is a world class field in the Women’s 5000 meters. World Champion Helen Obiri also dominated the Diamond League this year. In the final at the AG Memorial Van Damme she will have to deal with European Champion and World Record Holder in the Mile, Sifan Hassan! But there are a lot more threats coming from Kenya and Europe: Agnes Jebet Tirop and World Leading 3000m Steeplechase Champion Beatrice Chepkoech on the one hand, German Kostanze Klosterhafen on the other hand.

Men’s 110m Hurdles

The chances are wide open in the Men’s 110-meter Hurdles. World Champion Sergey Shubenkov started the season very strongly, but Orlando Ortega from Spain was the best overall in the Diamond Race. In the past weeks American Champion Daniel Roberts was in the spotlights. Add World Indoor Champion Andy Pozzi to this selection and this event becomes a battle between many favourites to take final victory.

Women’s 100m Hurdles

The Women’s 100m Hurdles is likely to become a duel between World Record Holder Kendra Harrison and former World Champion and  World Leader Danielle Williams. They both shared almost all of the Diamond League victories. Newly crowned Belgian champion Anne Zagré will be added to this field with a wildcard.
