Opening Ceremony AG Memorial Van Damme honours all Belgian medal winners of this summer

The European Championships are finished and all attention is now drawn to the AG Memorial Van Damme on Friday August, 31. All Belgian medal winners of the past summer will be honoured during the Opening Ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony this year will be exclusively dedicated to the Belgian sportsmen and sportswomen who shined at the European Championships in Berlin and in Glasgow. Belgium tallied no less than 19 medals at both events, six of them were gold medals. Nafi Thiam, the Belgian Tornadoes and Koen Naert in athletics, Victor Campenaerts, De Ketele and Ghys in cycling and Nina Derwael in gymnastics.

Five silver and eight bronze medal winners will also be present, as well as World Sailing champion Emma Plasschaert and European judo medal winners Toma Nikiforov and Sami Chouchi. On top of that also the Belgian Red Devils will also be honoured for winning bronze at the FIFA World Cup.

The Brussels Diamond League meeting continue sits tradition of honouring high level performances in athletics and in other Olympic sports. At previous occasions these ceremonies were always amongst the highlights of the meeting. It offesr the spectators the exceptional occasion to watch their national sportsmen from close by.
