Thrilling events expected in Brussels after Birmingham DL

Katerina Stefanidi won the Pole Vault at the Birmingham Grand Prix. The Greek was outstanding while crossing 4.75m ahead of Holly Bradshaw (GBR) and  Michael Meijer (SWE). Stefanidi likely faces a threat from Cuban Yarisley Silva in Brussels.

Jamaican Elaine Thompson won the 100m in a personal revenge race against Marie-Josée Ta Lou from the Ivory Coast. Dafne Schippers (NED) anonymously finished in 6th.

Sandra Perkovic was the best Discus Thrower in Birmingham. She beat Cubans Denia Caballero and Yaimi Perez down to 2nd and 3rd. The Croatian won with a 67.51m effort and is a dominating leader in the Diamond Race.

Zuzana Hejnova won the 400m Hurdles in seasonal best of 54”18. Local favourite and British team captain Eilidh Doyle came in 4th place.

Eid Salwa Naser from Bahrein won the 400m in 50”59 ahead of Americans Allyson Felix and Courtney Okolo. The World Youth Champion, still only 19 years old, showed another impressive glimpse of her huge talent.

Dawit Seyaum (ETH) closed the gap with her compatriot Tsegay in the ultimate lap and won the 1500m in 4’01”36. Rababe Arafi (MAR and Angelika Cichocka (POL) took 3rd and 6th places and will certainly be contenders in Brussels.

Nijel Amos (BOT) scored another DL-win in the 800m. He was the best in 1’44”50, the Polish armada of Adam Kszczot and Marcin Lewandowski were 2nd and 3rd.

World Champion Ramil Guliyev (TUR) holds strong form and won the 200m ahead of Ameer Webb (USA) and Aaron Brown (CAN).

Thomas Walsh from New Zealand won the Shot Put with 21.83m. Crouser (USA), Stanek (CZE), Storl (GER) and Haratyk (POL) were the other throwers to cross the 21m-mark.
