Golden Obiri and Perkovic now on quest for diamond …

The Women’s 5000m and the Women’s Discus Throw saw the Diamond Race leaders emerge as World Champions in London. Hellen Obiri and Sandra Perkovic will compete in Brussels to win the Final of the Diamond League competition.

Hellen Obiri already won 3 Diamond Races and she comfortably leads the #RoadToBrussels. The Kenyan took the 5000m gold in 14’34”86. She was joined on the rostrum by Almaz Ayana (ETH) and by Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan. In the big Final of the IAAF Diamond League Obiri will run the 5000m while Hassan lines up in the 1500m.

Sandra Perkovic from Croatia took her second World title with a 70.31m effort in the Discus Throw. Perkovic is also a double Olympic Champion and that makes her the big favourite to catch the IAAF Diamond League victory as well.

BELGIAN TORNADOS FALL SHORT OF THE MEDALS
Belgian 4 x 400m relay team of Robin Vanderbemden, Jonathan Borlée, Dylan Borlée and Kevin Borlée narrowly dropped off the medals when they finished in 4th. The gold was for the team of Trinidad and Tobago. The beat the teams of the USA and of Great Britain.
On Sep. 1st the belgian Tornados will race in an individual 400m. On Aug. 26th the Borlée bothers will also participate at the sprintfestival of the AG Urban Memorial Van Damme Series in the Brussels city centre.
