Sprint Queen Schippers and Long Jump Top 5 Women at Memorial!

Dafne Schippers successfully defended her 200m World title in London. The Dutch queen of sprint will be one of the headlining athletes at the AG Memorial Van Damme. The Top 5 finishers of the Women’s Long Jump will also present at the Diamond League Final of their event.

Dafne Schippers won the 200m gold medal in the Olympic Stadium in 22.05. Marie-José Ta Lou (CIV) won the silver in 22.08 while Shaunae Miller-Uibo (BAH) took the bronze in 22.15. In winning a second consecutive 200m title Schippers joins two other great stars of female sprinting.

Allyson Felix and Merlene Ottey also won two times gold in this event. Schippers and Ta Lou will compete in the 100m in Brussels. The Ivorian became the vice-World Champion in that event this week. 

It was a blanket finish in the World Long Jump final in London. American Brittney Reese jumped to gold with a 7.02m effort. Neutral athlete Darya Klishina came second with 7.00m and Ivan Spanovic from Serbia third with 6.96m. Briton Lorraine Ugen was fifth with 6.72. These 5 athletes already qualified for the Diamond League Final.

VAN DER PLAETSEN, ZAGRÉ AND THE BORLÉE BROTHERS

Thomas Van der Plaetsen abandoned in the Decathlon with a slight knee injury. Hopefully he will be able to compete in the triathlon (Shot, Long Jump, 110m Hurdles) at the AG Memorial Van Damme.

Anne Zagré convincingly qualified for the semi-finals of the 100m Hurdles but wasn’t able to show the same form and was eliminated in the semis. On Sat. Aug. 26th Zagré will also be present at the sprintfestival at the AG Urban Memorial Van Damme in the Brussels city centre. The Borlée Brothers will also be present there!
