Golden Thiam at AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme

Those who want to cheer and applaud newly crowned Olympic Champion Nafissatou Thiam should be heading to the King Baudouin Stadium on Sep. 9th. The AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme includes the Women High Jump on the meeting program, with Thiam as the major star of the event.

The just 21 year old athlete superbly won gold in the Heptathlon at the Rio Olympic Games. Thiam battled herself through the event with five personal bests and three individual event wins to take the gold medal. It was the first athletics gold medal for Belgium since Tia Hellebaut won the High Jump at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

Thiam won the High Jump while clearing 1.98m which is a World Best in the Heptathlon. The AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme therefore includes the Women’s High Jump in the meeting program.
