Dauwens improves PB

Axelle Dauwens improved her personal best on the 400m hurdles. She finished in seventh in 55.56secs, 0.07secs better than what she put on the timesheets at the European Championship in Zürich, where she also took seventh.

"I don’t really have a proper explanation as to why I’m still running so well," says the Belgian. "I struggled at the start of the season with a few injuries. Only after a dreadful month of May I started running better and better. The Euro’s in Zürich were more than okay and getting a personal best here is superb. This is a great race to run. It’s the first Memorial van Damme that I wasn’t watching from the stands myself. You can definitely feel the support from the audience.

"I was surprised to make such a quick start and still be able to follow the others till the end. At the eight hurdle I took an extra step, but I could still keep up with the athlete next to me. I didn’t expect being able to keep two athletes at bay and deliver such a nice time."
