Those four world class sprinters have dominated international sprinting over the past weeks and months. The AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme is delighted to announce this 100m field in the absence of sprinting legend Usain Bolt. In 2014 the Jamaican world record holder will only compete in a selected number of exhibition events.
Justin Gatlin actually ran the fastest time in the world this year with 9.80 and broke sub the 10” mark no less than six times this year. His compatriot and US champion Mike Rodgers holds a seasonal best of 9.91 en was four times faster than 10” on the distance. Also mind Tyson Gay : the former world champion immediately clocked 9.93 in his first race of the season in Lausanne.
And what about good old Kim Collins ? The 38 year old 2003 world champion from St Kitts and Nevis cracked the 10” mark last week in London, clocking 9.96. That means that an exciting 100m is expected to take place on the superfast track of the King Baudouin stadium. The stadium record is held by Usain Bolt with 9.76.
