Nafi Thiam amongst the World Class High Jumpers in Brussels

The Women’s High Jump is likeky to become one of the highlights of the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme. All the World’s best High Jumpers will be present to honour Tia Hellebaut, the only female Belgian Olympic Gold Medal winner in Athletics. A young and highly talented athlete will be offered a chance to show her potential.

Nafi Thiam broke the national Heptahlon Record from Tia Hellebaut at the European Junior Championships in Rieti on Jul. 19. to become the European Champion. She set the seventh best all time Junior performance in the event.

Thiam will participate in the High Jump competition at the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme amongst the most outstanding stars such as Anna Chicherova and Blanka Vlasic. Both World Class jumpers have confirmed their entries in Brussels and will participate in an honouring ceremony for Tia Hellebaut who retired from the sports recently.

Tia Hellebaut is happy with the strong field in the Women’s High Jump and with the presence of Nafi Thiam. “Nafi has produced some fantastic performances this year, she is a real prospect for the future, a rough diamond.”
