The British artist Nicholas James Gentry was born in London on 29 May 1980. He still lives and works there.
With the Olympics in the British capital as a highlight of the sporting year and of the athletics season, the organisers of the Memorial could not have wished for a more suited artist to design the poster of the 2012 edition.
The artwork by Nicholas, Nick Gentry says, is influenced by the increased use and impact of technology, and the consumerism in contemporary society. He often uses already processed materials and artifacts in his works.
His big break as a painter came with a series of paintings, in which "floppy disks" and VHS tapes formed the canvas. With it Gentry emphasised reuse and recycling of all kinds of personal objects.
Such as the painting that will be the Memorial poster. It uses copper wire in the canvas.
Nick Gentry successfully exhibited in cities such as his own London, but also in New York and Miami.
In Belgium, his work is distributed by Absolute Art Gallery, which has branches in Bruges (4 Dyver) and Knokke (285 Kustlaan and 806 Zeedijk).www.absoluteartgallery.com.
