World champion Rudisha to attack 14 year old stadium record

David Rudisha, world champion and world record holder in the 800 meters, will take part in the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme. The Kenyan athlete will attempt to break the 14 year old stadium record of Wilson Kipketer.

For more than two years now the 22 year old Rudisha dominates the 800 meters event. His breakthrough happened in the summer of 2009, when he won several races, including the one in Brussels. In 2010 Rudisha improved the then 13 year old world record of Wilson Kipketer by 0.02s. In Rieti a week later he improved his time with another few hundredths of a second. 1:41.01 is the new top time now.

This year as well Rudisha performs at a high level. On Tuesday in Deagu the Kenyan took his first world title in the 800 metres. And now Rudisha wants to bow out of his season in style with a stadium record at the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme. Since 22 August 1997 this has been 1:42.20 and was achieved by … Wilson Kipketer.
